Manguni Minahasa

North Sulawesi Province - Indonesia

Meanings:

Manguni is identified as the symbol of Minahasa people. The word ‘Manguni’ in local dialect refers to an owl bird which is believed for its special characteristic. This bird can fly and see through up to 300 meters of sight distance in the night. Local people believe that owls are the medium of Minahasa people to communicate with nature. In ancient times, certain owl birds’ sounds give different signs to help the Minahasa farmers to overcome rat pests that attack farmers’ crops.
