Meanings:

Pinang refers to the Palm areca tree. This motif is considered as the original pattern of Karawo embroidery textiles. This motif exemplifies noble characters that one needs to develop such as unwavering integrity, honest, protective, and perfectionist. Gorontalo Karawo textile is presented in 4 colors with different meanings: yellow symbolizes prosperity, green means fertility, red means courage, and purple is considered a symbol of solemnity.

Batik Karawo Production Process in Gorontalo

Batik production can take 1 month up to 2 years of working time depending on the purposes of the textile creation and the colour complexity. The Batik handwriting textile is generally made with 8 design steps, ranging from wax patterning to colouring process. The artists use Canting, as a tool to put hot melted wax on the cloth.

Overview of Gorontalo Province
