Meanings:
The word “Bultiya” is an acronym of the names of the three major tribes in North Kalimantan, namely the Bulungan, Tidung, and Dayak tribes. This motif was created by Ridwansyah, a batik artisan from Bulungan Regency. He created this motif to celebrate and help strengthen the harmonious relationships among the tribes in Bulungan Regency, North Kalimantan.

Batik Production Process in North Kalimantan
Batik production can take 1 month up to 2 years of working time depending on the purposes of the textile creation and the colour complexity. The Batik handwriting textile is generally made with 8 design steps, ranging from wax patterning to colouring process. The artists use Canting, as a tool to put hot melted wax on the cloth.

Overview of North Kalimantan Province
Bordering the State of Sabah (Malaysia) in the north and in the west, this province has a unique cultural mixture of the migrant Malay ethnicity and indigenous Dayak ethnicity. North Kalimantan, which was established in 2012, is one of the youngest provinces in Indonesia. It has large areas of peat forest and rich tropical biodiversity. Nature conservation has been maintained by the local wisdom of Dayak indigenous communities for centuries.
