Pinawetengan

North Sulawesi Province - Indonesia

Meanings:

The Pinawetengan Batik pattern was taken from a prehistoric inscription in North Sulawesi, called the Watu Pinawetengan, which has existed since 1000 BC. This cultural site was discovered by J.G.F. Riedel in 1881. This site is a place where the ancestors of the Minahasa people divided their territory into nine Minahasa sub-ethnic groups today. The main motif of typical Batik cloth in this region is the sunflower, which is an icon of Watu Pinawetengan historical site.
