Meanings:

Cendrawasih bird or Bird of Paradise (Paradisaea), is a motif that illustrates the endemic bird from Papua land. Cendrawasih is one of the rare bird species, protected by the Indonesian government. This bird is believed as a Paradise bird that connects the earth with heaven. This motif is also considered a sacred motif and represents the identity of Papuan community both residing in Papua and West Papua land.

Batik Production Process in West Papua

Batik production can take 1 month up to 2 years of working time depending on the purposes of the textile creation and the colour complexity. The Batik handwriting textile is generally made with 8 design steps, ranging from wax patterning to colouring process. The artists use Canting, as a tool to put hot melted wax on the cloth.
