Tangerang Herang

Meanings:

Tangerang Herang motif is a symbol of Tangerang city. It is a combination of several motifs, including a pavilion house, ten doors, a boat, and jasmine blossom. The pavilion house represents the central government building of Tangerang city, while the ten doors symbol refers to the Ten Water Gates of Tangerang. The boat symbolizes the Dragon Boat, which is one of the sports commonly practiced on Cisadane River. Jasmine flower is a symbol dedicated to commemorate Nyi Mas Melati (“Lady Golden Jasmine”), a local female hero who fought against Dutch colonists in the 19th Century.

Batik Production Process in Banten

Batik production can take 1 month up to 2 years of working time depending on the purposes of the textile creation and the colour complexity. The Batik handwriting textile is generally made with 8 design steps, ranging from wax patterning to colouring process. The artists use Canting, as a tool to put hot melted wax on the cloth.
