The Launch of iWareBatik Mobile App on 17 August 2020

On August 17, 2020, at 13.00 Indonesian local time, the launching webinar of iWareBatik mobile app is conducted by Puspita Ayu Permatasari, Ph. D (c), the research coordinator of iWareBatik research as well as the representative of the USI UNESCO Chair Switzerland together with the Sobat Budaya Foundation. This application can be downloaded for free and is available on the iOS platform iTunes and Google Play Android

The app launching was fully supported by Indonesian Embassy for Switzerland and Liechtenstein in Bern, Switzerland. This launching event was attended by ITB Kultura student activity units, Indonesian Sobat Budaya Culture Association, Bandung Fe Institute, and 9 (nine) Overseas Indonesian Students Associations (PPI) representatives namely PPI Switzerland and Liechtenstein, Wisnu Uriawan, Ph.D (c) Chairman of PPI France 2019/2020, Brimoresa Wahyu Dhoran Dhoro Chairman of PPI Spain 2019/2020, Choirul Anam, Ph.D (c) Chairman of PPI Czech 2019/2020, Daya Wijaya, Ph.D (c) iWareBatik team and PPI Portugal, Robby Izaty Ramadhan, Chairman of PPI Italia 2019/2020, Rendy Firnanda Chairman of PPI India 2019/2020, M. Haqi Fajar Ismaya, Regional Overseas Indonesian Students Associations (PPI) for  America and Europe Regions 2019/2020, Gede Kreshna Wiryatama Chairman of PPI Germany 2020/2021. This launch event was also supported by PPI Denmark, PPI Poland, PPI Sweden, PPI Hungary, Perpika (PPI South Korea), PPI Japan, PPI Austria, PPI Estonia,  Didiet Maulana, batik couture designer, a UN Partner for Sustainable Development Goals in the field of fashion, as well as from the Trisakti School of Tourism as the tourism education institute that supports the empowerment of cultural communities in the regions.

Batik is a textile-making tradition in Indonesia that was inscribed by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009.  iWareBatik is a digital platform that is designed to showcase and communicate the exceptional cultural values of Batik tradition that is protected by UNESCO as the legacy of humanity. The online platform serves to help international and Indonesian Batik stakeholders to identify the variety of Batik textiles, philosophical values behind the motif, its place of origin, and useful information about local producers. Since Batik characterises the culture of each region in Indonesia, iWareBatik platform also features information about Indonesian tourism overview related to Batik in 34 provinces across Indonesia.
